LAKSEVÅGS BUESKYTTERE TURNS 130 YEARS!

and we were fortunate to be there to document this special day.

Five years ago, we were contacted by Laksevåg Archers to document their 125th anniversary. We, of course, said YES!

Now, five years later, in 2024, we have the pleasure of being part of the celebration once again!

LAKSEVÅGS BUESKYTTERE 130 YEARS

We are proud and excited to be part of this once again!

The Crane at Laksevåg

The Crane at Laksevåg is an iconic landmark that sparks intense debates about whether it should be demolished or preserved.

On the day we documented for Laksevåg Bueskyttere, we took the opportunity to capture some beautiful photos of the crane.

Whether it stays or goes, that is the big question.

LAKSEVÅGS BUESKYTTERE

The Story

Laksevåg Bueskyttere was founded on May 8, 1894, by the initiators Petter Bøthun and Olaf Nygaard. The founding took place in Dr. Høygaard's garden, which was located between the old fire station and Laxevaag Machine & Iron Shipbuilding. Other important contributors to the foundation were Rasmus Nygaard, Nicolay Thorsen, Gustav Ellingsen, and Alfred Andersen.

The uniform of Laksevåg Bueskyttere consisted of white shirts and black trousers, with scarves and cap hats for the officers. The cap hats were not available to everyone due to the cost, so instead, the "los hat" was used, adorned with ribbons in the bueskyttere's colors. Officers also wore white gloves. The reason for the white shirts was economic; many could not afford dress jackets, so flour sacks from bakeries were bleached, treated, and tailored into uniform shirts.

The equipment included shields, axes, bows, spears, halberds, foils, and sabers. Soldiers used los hats and boat hats from the 1920s.

There is no definitive information about the first banner, but it is believed to have had a dark red fabric with a lion motif. This banner was used until 1922. On May 21, 1922, the corps was presented with a new banner, also made of dark red silk, but with a Viking motif.
